Co-Editors In Chief

Martina Zacker, '20, is a senior at CHS and will be attending the University of Michigan in the fall. As a junior, she was an Arts & Entertainment Co-Editor and has thoroughly enjoyed her time as both an A&E Editor as well as an Editor In Chief. She has played soccer all four years of high school and hopes to play club or intramural at Michigan in the fall. Although her major is undecided, she will likely go into communications or international relations. She hopes to continue her journalism career by writing for the Michigan Daily in college. In her free time she likes to hang out with her friends, ski, watch Netflix and eat a lot of ice cream.



Nicholas Shires, '20, is currently a senior and will be attending the University of Washington in the fall, where he hopes to study biomedical engineering, public health, and Spanish. Nick has been playing frisbee for CHS since his freshman year and hopes to continue as a Husky. He also plans to further his passion for journalism by joining UW’s The Daily. In his spare time, Nick writes short stories and poems, reads, plays guitar, bikes, rock climbs, and crosses up his friends in pick-up basketball because none of them can guard him.

 

 

Design Editors



Dana Hugel, '20, is currently a senior at CHS. This is her second year on the design staff of the Columbian as well as her fourth year working on the school’s art and literary magazine, The Guildscript. Some of her favorite pastimes are listening to music, watching movies, cooking or baking, and taking on creative projects. She’ll be entering college with no major declared, but she’s excited to see what she’ll experience and is eager to see where she’ll end up.






Matt McBride, '21, is currently a junior at Columbia High School. This is his second year on the design team of the Columbian. Matt has been on the CHS track team since spring of freshman year and hopes to continue next season. Matt enjoys pole vault, guitar, traveling, jamming to music, and meeting up friends during his free time.

Arielle Loubier, '21, is currently a junior at Columbia High School. This is her first year on the Columbian. Arielle has been playing for the CHS soccer team since freshman year and hopes to continue with a senior season in the fall. Outside of school and soccer, Arielle enjoys photography, playing with her dog, hanging with friends, and listening to music.





Art Editor

Avery Soupios, '20, , is a senior at CHS and will be attending the Honors College at Rutgers University New Brunswick in the fall as an Archaeology major. During her junior year, she did art freelance work for the Columbian as well as served as the Art Editor of the Guildscript Art and Literary Magazine. She continued as the Art Editor of both the Columbian and the Guildscript her senior year. Avery played soccer all four years of high school and began ultimate frisbee in her junior year. She enjoys painting sneakers, baking and playing with her two dogs. She hopes to work towards becoming an Art Conservator and serving in the Peace Corps after college. 

 

News Editor

Jon Cutler, '20, is currently a senior at Columbia High School. Next year, he plans to study business at the University of Colorado, with a focus in finance and computer science. Jon's noteworthy high school accomplishments include being president of the CHS FBLA chapter, a part of the varsity soccer team, and his position on The Columbian. Jon loves spending his free time with his friends, in addition to snowboarding, hiking, biking, and playing guitar. Hoping to carry his passion for journalism into college, Jon plans to write for the CU Independent, Boulder's digital student newspaper.

 

 

 

Arts & Entertainment Editor

Emily Wilner, '20, is currently attending Columbia High School. While she has not committed to a college yet, she plans on majoring in Criminal Justice with the hope of working for either the F.B.I. or the Department of Homeland Security. In her free time, Emily enjoys watching "Criminal Minds", listening to music, going out with friends, scrolling through TikTok, and baking a variety of cookies.

   

 

 

In-Depth Co-Editors

Noori Zubieta, '20, is currently at Columbia High School and will be attending Princeton University in the fall. While the plan is to major in mathematics and obtain a certificate in the visual arts, Noori is not completely sure yet. She also enjoys physics and literature at school; as an avid reader, she is almost always toting around a couple tomes in her backpack. Other hobbies of Noori's include skiing, drawing, and painting.







Ruari McEwan, '20, is currently a student at Columbia High School. He has yet to commit to a college for the Fall. His generally notable accomplishments are being the captain of his ultimate frisbee team and being a part of the CHS stock market club. For a more personal look at Ruari’s life, Ruari loves The Office, dogs, Marvel movies, listening to music and having fun. “I laugh because I must not cry, that is all, that is all.”- Abraham Lincoln.


   

Opinions Co-Editors

Jordan Young, '20, is currently a senior at Columbia High School. During the past four years, she greatly has enjoyed all of her English and science classes, and of course her time on The Columbian. As a result, she is extremely passionate about journalism and biology, both of which she will be pursuing next year at American University as a double major in journalism and neuroscience. While there, she hopes to write or edit for AU’s newspaper, The Eagle, as well as conduct scientific research on neurological disorders. When Jordan is not at school or working on the newspaper, she likes to read, write, bake, listen to music, and spend time with friends and family. 






 Ari Mehlman, '20, is currently a senior. Besides writing articles, he enjoys making music, spending time with his friends, and playing video games. His college situation is currently unclear, but he hopes to study journalism, music production or a combination of the two. He also likes to make ice cream, coffee, and bake. He has been trying to improve his basketball skills; he thought he’d include that. Maybe one day he will be great enough to face off with Nick.

 

Sports Co-Editors


Sydney Rednik, '20, is a senior and will be attending Syracuse University in the fall. While there, she will be studying Television, Radio, and Film and is hoping to play club softball, join a few clubs and possibly write for Syracuse's newspaper, the Daily Orange. In school, Sydney enjoys sociology, her contemporary literature class, and her time on the newspaper staff. In her free time, she enjoys listening to music, singing, hanging out with friends, playing different sports, and watching movies.






Zoe Slavin, '20, is currently a senior and will be attending the University of Maryland in the fall, where she will be studying business management and journalism. Zoe has been the manager of the Columbia High School softball team since her freshman year and looks to continue getting involved in sports as a Terrapin. In school, Zoe enjoys English, photography and loves her position on the Columbian editorial board. In her free time, Zoe loves watching baseball, playing with her dog, watching Netflix and hanging out with her friends.

Derek Gutierrez, '20 - is a senior at Columbia and has been on the Columbian staff for 2 years.  He has an interest in graphic art and design. 

Jack Griffith, '22, is currently a sophomore at Columbia in his first year as a designer for The Columbian. Some of his favorite things to do are hang out with his friends, play video games, listen to music, and play basketball. He is excited to see what is in store for the future of The Columbian.

Leo Preston, '22, is a sophomore at Columbia. He is a first year designer for The Columbian. He enjoys grapic design and film photography. He also likes to hangout with friends, play drums, and play video games. He is excited to work on The Columbian until he leaves Columbia High.

Ethan Walden, '20 - Ciao! My name is Ethan Walden and this is my last year being on the main design team for the Columbian newspaper. The amount of time I've been able work along other talented students in production journalism is something I recommend to not miss out on, especially the team leaders we can learn from. I will be joining the workforce alongside chasing an art related field after graduation. I am grateful for the opportunities this position in the Columbian has given me.

Isaac Weber, '21, is a junior at Columbia High School and has been a Designer for The Columbian for two years. He runs cross country and is on the tennis team for his high school. He enjoys working on the Guildscript which is the art and literary magazine for his school. Isaac is excited to work on the first ever online Columbian edition.

Charlie Hummel, '21, is a junior at Columbia High school and is a second year designer for The Columbian. He enjoys playing soccer, and is a member of the CHS Varsity soccer team. He also likes to play video games, hang out with friends, and to watch football. Charlie is very excited to be a Designer for The Columbian, and thinks it will be a very successful year. 

Sydney Mannion, '22, is a sophomore at Columbia, where she is a part of the swim team and girl’s frisbee team. This is her first year designing for The Columbian. In her free time, she enjoys making art, watching TV, reading, and CrossFit.
